HRCap Receives 245 Submissions for the 2023 Next-Gen Leadership Scholarship

Starting in May 2022, HRCap launched our inaugural annual scholarship essay program to identify, develop, and elevate the next generation of AAPI Leaders in celebration of AAPI Heritage Month. For this year’s cycle, the application opened in April, and the last day to submit applications came to a close on May 14, 2023, with an astounding 245 submissions, an increase of 36% from 2022.
To apply for the scholarship, students had to write an essay on what their AAPI culture means to them or why they are interested in Asian American studies and languages, and how they demonstrated HRCap core values in their current community.

As we review all submissions, we are awestruck by how AAPI students are stepping up as transformative leaders who have an earnest dedication to driving a difference in their respective communities and embodying HRCap core values.
From over 32 distinct ethnic Asian groups and over 130 academic backgrounds, we received 245 submissions, representing a 36% increase compared to last year’s cycle. Most applicants are multicultural Asian-American, while few have been adopted and are trying to connect with their cultural heritage. Even non-Asian students have applied that are pursuing degrees in East Asian studies or languages, which demonstrates the globalization of Asian cultures and cultural diversity.
Last year, we received applications from 156 cities and 140 colleges and universities in the U.S., while this year we have reached further distances encompassing 193 cities and 184 colleges and universities.
Next Steps
In collaboration with our HRCap CSR Outreach Members and HRCap Scholarship Review Board, we will meticulously evaluate and assess the scholarship applicants based on their academic achievements, extracurricular activity, and display of leadership and HRCap values in their essays.
The top 6 applicants will receive a monetary scholarship prize to aid their tuition fees. Additionally, for the top 25 applicants, we will provide social media coverage of their personal essays, 1:1 mentoring and career coaching on interview prep, and career path counseling.
From last year's winners and finalists, we have received their feedback on our scholarship program and our complementary services.
I was able to learn more about the interviewer’s perspective and ideas to help make my interview stand out among others.
I was honored to be a finalist and I think that is a great opportunity to connect with a company that is working to create a community of collaborators.
I appreciated the opportunity to share my accomplishments and learn about what other students have done during the course of their studies.
After careful consideration, we will announce our winners on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. We are eager to celebrate alongside these student leaders, sharing the impact they have had in their respective communities, and supporting them as they evolve into our next-generation leaders.
