March Insight 2: HRCap observed the academic majors of HR candidates across multiple generations in the United States. Based on HRCap’s recent market research with candidate feedback and LinkedIn data, Business Administration & Management, HR Management and Psychology were the top areas of study across the three generations. 30.1% of Gen X, 25.9% of Gen Y, and 29.7% of Gen Z majored in Business Administration, while 14.9% of Gen X, 23.8% of Gen Y, and 27.8% of Gen Z studied HR Management. This confirms the rising importance and possibly a job requirement of having a relevant undergraduate degree in HRM for a career in Human Resources. Interestingly, while Gen X gained additional technical skills in Accounting and Business Commerce, Gen Y & Gen Z candidates prioritized mastering the general field of HR during their undergraduate careers.
