September 2024 Insight: The January 2024 Indeed report identified the top 8 most commonly acquired and highly sought-after languages for professionals looking to advance their skills for marketability. After analyzing market research with candidate feedback and LinkedIn data, HRCap identified the top 8 acquired languages among the current active bilingual candidate pool as: Spanish (24.3%), French (21.3%), Hindi (13.9%), Mandarin (12.4%), German (9.4%), Portuguese (7.9%), Arabic (5.9%), and Japanese (4.9%).
This data confirms the rising importance of language fluency which also leads to cultural fluency in today’s evolving global landscape. More candidates are willing to learn not only popular European languages such as Spanish and French but also Asian and Middle Eastern languages such as Hindi, Mandarin, and Arabic given the global expansion of enterprises and reach of customers..
Learning and strengthening our language skills can not only add to our marketability as newer candidates but can enhance our cultural awareness and communication skills. As undergraduate and graduate students embark on a new semester at their respective universities, we empower all to seriously consider learning a new foreign language or advancing existing language skills to help achieve career goals.
