As HRCap’s Summer 2025 Internship Program draws to a close, we are proud to spotlight Yein Kim, a senior at Bard College majoring in Sociology, whose journey from May through August has been marked by growth, resilience, and distinction.

With a strong passion for project management and digital analytics, Yein has navigated challenges with intellectual curiosity and adaptability, leaving a lasting impression as an emerging professional ready to chart her path toward future leadership.

Internship Experience at HRCap

During her time spent at HRCap, Yein consistently contributed with initiative, precision, and professionalism. She supported the recruiting process, participated in market research, and assisted with preparations for HRCap’s 25th Anniversary Gala, navigating diverse responsibilities while advancing team objectives. Through collaboration with colleagues, she refined her organizational and analytical skills, while also developing confidence in managing priorities and delivering results.

Reflecting on her growth, Yein shared, “I’ve learned to balance multiple responsibilities, stay organized, and continuously seek ways to improve based on feedback. I enjoy working in a team while also challenging myself to grow independently.” Her openness to feedback, combined with her reliability and adaptability, made her a trusted team member and promising young professional.

KOCHAM Essay Highlight

The summer of 2025 holds a different meaning for everyone. For me, it was the summer before my final semester of college. Three years have passed since I arrived in the United States with a racing heart and eager eyes. My passion for learning remains strong, but this summer I found myself reflecting deeply on my career, my future, and who I want to become. I wanted to prepare more thoroughly than ever and turn this summer into a time of growth. That is when I discovered the meaningful opportunity of the KOCHAM Internship Program. 

I still remember the day of my first individual interview with KOCHAM. The interviewer said, “You’ve prepared really well.” Those words may sound ordinary, but to me, they felt like recognition of the years I had spent planning, studying, volunteering, and working on my own as an international student in the U.S. That single sentence encouraged me and gave me the strength to move forward. 

After the KOCHAM interview, the committee matched me with potential companies based on my background, interests, and interview results. I was fortunate to be included on HRCap’s candidate list, and soon after, I received an interview request from them. 

Through four rounds of interviews with HRCap, I met the team and gained a deeper understanding of the company. During one of those conversations, the Senior Vice President asked, “Why do you want to intern at HRCap?” I answered honestly: “I want to see, listen, learn, and experience directly from real experts, regardless of the field.” 

HRCap, based in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, is an Asian-American company that provides global search and headhunting, customized HR solutions, and leadership training. I study Sociology and minor in Experimental Humanities, which explores the relationship between people and technology. For me, joining a company that connects people, creates opportunities, and provides mentorship felt exciting and full of promise. 

On my first day, I carried the advice from KOCHAM’s orientation: “Always keep a learner’s mindset.” Meeting the team in person filled me with excitement, and they welcomed me warmly. Over the next few weeks, I received intensive training on HRCap’s work, and the team generously shared their expertise with me. 

One of the most memorable experiences was preparing for HRCap’s 25th Anniversary celebration. Although I had just joined, I worked alongside the SVP and my team to plan and manage the entire event. From brainstorming ideas to executing detailed plans, I saw concepts turn into reality step by step. I did not just assist with an event. I learned how to develop ideas, execute them, and collaborate as part of a project team.

Because I had always been interested in project management, this experience felt especially meaningful. I worked on the event from start to finish and felt proud of my role on the team. On the day of the celebration, as guests began leaving, several executives and professionals from HRCap’s partner companies stopped by to say, “Great work.” I felt both humbled and proud. In that moment, I realized that my efforts had truly made an impact. 

After the anniversary, I moved into daily responsibilities with the Executive Search team. I sourced candidates, screened resumes, updated systems, researched industry trends, and supported interviews with candidates. Every task carried real meaning, and I felt motivated knowing that my work supported the team directly. Observing interviews was one of the most valuable opportunities. I learned that effective recruiting involves more than simply evaluating resumes. It requires asking the right questions, earning trust, and creating open, genuine conversations. 

Through these experiences, I realized that HR goes far beyond recruitment. It plays a strategic role in shaping an organization’s vision and future. As technology develops and grows more sophisticated, people remain at the heart of the field. The more advanced our tools become, the more essential it is to understand, connect with, and support individuals. 

This summer became more meaningful thanks to my KOCHAM peers as well. Each of us came from different backgrounds, yet we shared the same drive to achieve our goals. Talking about our dreams and challenges inspired me and reminded me that I am not alone in this journey. 

Looking back, I gained more than professional experience. I gained clarity about the path I want to pursue and the skills I need to build. I learned how to work, how to collaborate, how to find my place within a team, and above all, how to keep learning with an open and humble mindset. 

I am grateful to KOCHAM for opening this opportunity and to everyone at HRCap for guiding me with their time and care. This summer will remain one of the most meaningful chapters of my journey.

2025년 여름, 모두에게 각자 다른 의미로 남겠지만, 나에게 이번 여름은 대학교를 졸업하는 마지막 학기를 남겨둔 여름이었다. 두근거리는 심장과 떨리지만 반짝이는 눈을 가지고 미국을 온 지 3년째가 되었다. 아직도 식지 않은 열정과 배우려는 자세는 같지만, 유학생인 나에게 이번 여름은 진로와 미래, 그리고 나라는 사람에 대해 고민이 깊어지던 시기였다. 그래서 이번 여름을 그 어느 때보다 더 철저히 준비하여, 나를 성장시키는 시간으로 만들고 싶었다. 그 과정에서 감사하게도 KOCHAM Internship Program이라는 뜻깊은 기회를 알게 되었다. 

서류를 제출하고, KOCHAM 담당자분과의 면접을 본 날이 아직도 생생하게 기억난다. “정말 열심히 준비하셨네요.” 누군가에겐 평범한 말일 수 있지만, 미국에 혼자 유학 와 학업, 봉사, 활동, 인턴십까지 모든 것을 스스로 계획하고 부딪혀 온 지난 시간들이 처음으로 누군가에게 인정받은 순간이었다. 그 말 한마디가 나에게 큰 위로가 되었고, 앞으로 나아갈 용기를 안겨주었다. 

며칠 뒤, 감사하게도 HRCap이라는 회사에서 인터뷰 요청을 받았다. 네 차례의 면접을 통해 실제로 함께 일하게 될 팀원들과 미리 인사를 나눌 수 있었고, 회사에 대한 이해도 깊어졌다. 그 과정에서 전무님께서 물으셨다. “왜 HRCap에서 인턴을 하고 싶나요?” 나는 솔직하게 대답했다. “분야를 떠나, 진짜 전문가들에게 직접 보고 듣고 배우고 경험하고 싶습니다.” 이후 실제 인턴십 기간 동안, 나는 그 바람을 뛰어넘는 값진 경험들을 하게 되었다. 

HRCap은 뉴저지에 본사를 둔 Asian-American 기업으로, 글로벌 서치 및 헤드헌팅, 맞춤형 HR 솔루션과 리더십 교육을 제공하는 기업이다. 나는 사회학(Sociology)을 전공하고, Experimental Humanities라는 인간과 기술 사이의 관계를 탐구하는 분야를 부전공하고 있다. 그래서 사회에 대한 관심을 가지고 이론을 공부해 온 내가, 실무 현장에서 사람과 사람을 연결하고, 기회와 멘토십을 제공하는 HR 회사에서 직접 일하게 된 것은 큰 설렘과 기대로 다가왔다. 

첫 출근 날, KOCHAM 오리엔테이션에서 강조했던 ‘배우고자 하는 자세’를 마음속에 되새기며 회사에 도착했다. 인터뷰 때 화면으로만 뵈었던 분들을 실제로 만나니 반가움이 앞섰고, 팀원분들은 정말 따뜻하게 나를 맞아주셨다. 이후 몇 주 동안은 탄탄한 트레이닝 과정을 통해 HRCap이 하는 일에 대해 집중적으로 배우게 되었고, 그 과정 속에서도 팀원들은 아낌없이 시간을 들여 그들의 노하우를 나에게 가르쳐주셨다. 

무엇보다 가장 기억에 남는 순간은 HRCap 창립 25주년 행사 준비에 참여했던 일이었다. 인턴을 시작한 지 얼마 되지 않았을 때였지만, 전무님과 팀원들과 함께 처음부터 행사의 전체적인 기획과 운영을 맡게 되었다. 작은 아이디어 하나부터 세부 실행까지, 머릿속에만 그리던 상상들이 하나씩 현실이 되어 가는 과정을 함께 만들어 간다는 것은 정말 뜻깊은 경험이었다. 단순히 ‘행사를 도왔다’는 것 이상으로, 아이디어 기획 – 실행 – 협업이라는 프로젝트 전 과정을 온몸으로 배우고 체득한 시간이었다. 

평소 Project Management에 관심이 많았던 나에게 이 프로젝트는 특히 특별했던 경험이었다. 규모 있는 행사의 시작부터 끝까지 함께할 수 있었다는 점에서, 내가 이 팀의 일원으로서 진짜 역할을 했다는 자부심을 느낄 수 있었다. 더불어, 행사 당일, HRCap과 파트너십을 맺고 있는 여러 기업의 임원분들과 전문가분들이 참석하셨고, 그분들께 직접 “수고 많았다”는 말을 들었을 때는 감동과 함께 뿌듯함이 밀려왔다. 짧은 시간이었지만, 내가 실질적으로 팀에 기여했다는 실감이 났던 소중한 순간이었다. 

행사가 끝난 후에는 실질적인 업무에도 본격적으로 참여하게 되었다. Executive Search팀의 인턴으로 합류하게 되어 후보자 검색, 이력서 스크리닝, 시스템 업데이트, 산업 트렌드 조사, 인터뷰 서포트, 그리고 Initial Conversation 동석까지 매일 다양한 일이 주어졌고, 내가 맡은 일이 팀에 실제로 도움이 된다는 점에서 더 열심히 임하게 되었다. 특히 인턴임에도 불구하고 실제 인터뷰에 직접 참여해 보고, 그 안에서 질문하는 방식이나 지원자와의 커뮤니케이션 방식을 관찰할 수 있었던 건 정말 소중한 경험이었으며, 그동안 공부하고 배웠던 모든 것들이 이 안에서 의미 있게 연결되고 있다는 느낌이 들었다. 

이 과정을 통해 느낀 건, 나는 HR 분야가 단순한 채용 업무를 넘어 조직의 방향성과 미래를 함께 설계하는 핵심 영역이라는 사실을 깨달았다. 특히 HR 분야는 기술과 데이터를 적극 활용하되, 그 중심에는 언제나 인간에 대한 이해와 관계 형성이 중요하며, 앞으로 기술이 더욱 고도화될수록 사람을 제대로 이해하고 연결하는 역량은 더욱 중요한 가치가 될 것임을 현장에서 직접 체감했다. 

이번 인턴십에서 얻은 것은 실무 경험뿐만이 아니었다. KOCHAM 인턴 동기들 역시 이번 여름 인턴십을 더욱 의미 있게 만들어 주었다. 각자 전공과 배경은 달랐지만, 모두가 자신의 꿈을 향해 노력하는 모습에 많은 자극을 받았다. 함께 비전을 나누고 서로의 고민을 들어주며 진심 어린 대화를 나눈 시간들은 내게 또 하나의 ‘성장’이었다. 

이번 여름 동안 HRCap에서 실무를 경험하며, KOCHAM을 통해 열정적인 인턴 동기들과 연결되며, 나는 단순히 이력서 한 줄을 위한 경험이 아닌, 내가 앞으로 어떤 길을 걷고 싶은지에 대한 방향성을 찾을 수 있었다. 불확실하고 답답했던 진로 고민에 길이 보이기 시작했고, 그 길을 걷기 위해 어떤 역량을 키워야 하는지도 분명히 알게 되었다. 이 기회를 통해 나는 일하는 방법뿐 아니라, 사람들과 협업하는 법, 실무 속에서 내 역할을 찾아가는 태도, 그리고 무엇보다 겸손하게 배우는 자세를 배웠다. 

본 인턴십을 통해 값진 경험과 배움의 기회를 제공해 주신 KOCHAM과, 그리고 인턴의 성장을 위해 아낌없이 시간을 내어 가르쳐 주신 HRCap의 모든 분들께 진심으로 감사의 말씀을 전합니다.
