Advocating Environmental Responsibility & Team Bonding

United States generates the most plastic waste worldwide. According to a 2020 Statista survey, nearly 2.6 million pounds of trash were collected along 34,099 kilometers of the U.S. Coastline. The amount of waste that accumulates in our oceans is detrimental to wildlife, the environment, and our health. We all need to proactively partake in cleaning and protecting the environment.

Surfrider Foundation is a grassroots non-profit environmental organization dedicated to protecting and preserving the world's oceans, waves, and beaches. Besides launching 176 Chapters & Student Clubs and clocking in 182,000 volunteer hours in 2019, they have also held over 800 successful campaigns that helped reform several environmental laws and ordinances.

HRCap and Environmental Responsibility

On August 6, 2022, HRCap participated in Surfrider Jersey Shore’s “Belmar L Street Beach Clean-up”. Our employees gathered outside our usual work environment to volunteer together. We walked around the beach and nearby public picnic areas to clean up any trash we saw and recorded it as data. Spending hours looking for trash made us hyperaware of the amount of waste pollution.

Few of us shared how this experience has changed our perspective and helped us better understand our role in keeping our environment clean:
